A
large online catalogue of over 3000 business gift ideas -
from pens to cut glass crystal and from mousemats to leather
bags. Nearly all of the gifts can be personalised - the site
includes a recommended personalisation method for each (printing,
engraving, embossing etc.) and the size of the area available
for personalisation. Other details shown for each gift include
a price range, colours available, size and what the item is
made of.
The
catalogue is searchable by a number of criteria, e.g. keyword
(matching the name or product description), make (many well
known brands are included in the site), price, category and
lifestyle. There are normally a number of views available
of each product - front, side, open, inside etc. - and these
are shown to the visitor.
The database behind the site is updated by company staff
on their intranet (which we also designed - see
this page in our Web Programming area) and changes made
are reflected instantly within the site - making product price
or specification changes easy to deal with.
A
"quote me" system enables visitors to request a
detailed personalisation quote for any product simply by typing
in a few details.
The system has a number of ancillary features such as "email
details of this product to a friend" and a button which
finds all related products to the one you are viewing. Other
areas of the large site detail the customer services available.
Search engine optimaisation was an important consideration
when designing The Collection. The complete catalogue is open
and available to search engines such as Google and indeed
this engine lists many of the site's products individually,
giving the company a stream of potential customers.
We were responsible for the entire scope of this site - from design concepts
through to database control, implementation, useability, page layout and search
engine optimisation. Some graphics, all the product images and some of the design
layout and text was produced in-house by our client.
The responsibility for running the site has now been moved elsewhere and the
layout has changed. The underlying database is unchanged.
