We were contracted to do some work on the site owned by the Finland based world-wide airline. The site used to be maintained by an associate web design company.

Our work on the site included some general maintenance and updating, creating new pages and sections within the site and the creation of a mailing list system using Perl.

The mailing list system was set up to store email addresses and other details of visitors who submitted their details to the site. Visitors could add their details and also unsubscribe at any time.

We created an administration area within the site (requiring a username/ password to enter) which enabled authorised staff to view and edit mailing list members, and to draft and send a personalised email to all those on the list. This section of the administration area included a feature to only send email to people if they had specified certain travel interests, and also a feature to send the email to one single test address, to ensure the draft was acceptable.

Within a few weeks the system was successfully handling 3000+ mailing list members.

The maintenance of the Finnair UK site has since been taken over by Finnair's in-house development team in Finland.
