Wessex Primary School

< 2 of 20 >

A primary school website with many sections, controlled by a content management system with multiple users so staff can keep the site up to date.

Launched:
2009

Type:
School

This large primary school with 400+ pupils needed a robust content-packed website to both attract new families and inform families with children at the school.

The website we created was based on graphical ideas the art department had created. We took these ideas and made them work well in the web environment - the tree home page graphic suits the school's image and has a home-made feel to it.

As well as looking good the website is packed with information including the automated school calendar which is one of the most popular areas. There is also a forms and documents area, which makes paperwork available and saves the school office staff time by not having to issue paper copies of forms. The website even shows the local weather report for the next few days. Finally, a search facility helps visitors find what they are looking for.

The website is controlled by a content management system which enables authorised school staff to change any content from any web-connected computer. We have also provided the facility to display emergency messages which are useful in the case of school closure.

Here the website is showing a temporary emergency message added by school staff about snow conditions at the school. The message shows at the top of each page, so it's impossible to miss, and is timed to switch off when the emergency conditions have cleared.

The school website has become a valuable resource and is an efficient way of promoting the school and getting information to stakeholders.
